Review originally posted on Book-o-Craze, on a Tour organized by Tasty Book Tours! This year I hadn't really managed to feel all the Christmas hype, with the season's glow not as apparent to me as previously. And, it might sound like it is a bit soon for the Christmas joy to start, but for me that was never the case up until last year! All this, before I read Wishes for Christmas, though.Fern Michaels made the holidays seem a little more festive this year, through her three short stories included [...]
This book is broken into 3 parts. They each tell their own story, but there is some connection of characters along the way. I found the first part to be hard to follow, but the 2nd two parts were good and had a nice story to each of them. And the Angels SingThis part of the book isn't exactly easy to follow. I think there's a lot of backstory in previous books about a Sisterhood, that probably have you knowing about each character, but in this particular one, they are a group of middle aged to ol [...]
Wishes for Christmas by Fern Michaels is a 2015 Zebra publicationI enjoy Fern Michaels Sisterhood series but because I was very slow in getting started on it, I have only managed to read a handful of them, but do try to squeeze one into my reading schedule whenever I can. But the Godmothers series is one I am completely unfamiliar with. Sometimes that doesn’t really matter, but in this case it presented a bit of a dilemma. The story is broken down into three parts, with a connection between st [...]
Wishes for Christmas by Fern MichaelsHave enjoyed other works by this author. Combination of the sisterhood and godmother series.Three ChristmasesStarts out with the women gathering at Halloween time and they break the rules-talking business with eating. The money from Maggie's husbands insurance upon his death she wants to give away to others so they can hear the angels sing. She wants to right a wrong from years gone by.Loved hearing of past holidays and ornaments made. Love how they get clues [...]
A delightful start to your festive reading- a collection of three short stories from Fern Michaels. They include characters from her book series so you feel you are catching up with friends. In the first book the Sisterhood help Maggie fulfil a Christmas wish to make someone’s life better over Christmas. This was my favourite of the three stories. The second story features The Godmothers where they open their houses for Winter viewings and uncover a mystery and the final story features both.As [...]
This was a good story for Christmas and a quick read. It was by no means a dynamic read nor was it something the reader starts and just can't put down, but it was interesting and entertaining for the season.
This is my first introduction to the Sisterhood and the Godmothers. Not sure I like either group of ladies. Though they are out to do good for others they seem shallow most of the time and hateful sometimes. The stories often jump to endings without giving you all the information to get there. Story 1: And the Angels Singe Godmothers help find a beloved teacher so that a former student can bring Christmas joy into her lifeStory 2: Naughty or Nicee Godmothers help to bring Christmas Joy to a sing [...]
Truly dreadful. Perhaps if I'd read the series that these characters are obviously a part of, I'd not be so lost, but I don't think that I could force myself to do so. Hackneyed writing, no character development at all and the most abrupt and unexplained endings I've ever seen. Thank goodness that this was a gift and I didn't pay good $$$ for it.
The first story with the vigilantes alone was heartwarming, but the other two were definitely not worth the time. Too many empty spaces to fill in.
I don't like to give bad reviews but this one was tough. You really need to have read other books in the series to really know the people and what's going on. Each of the three stories was drug out forever then abruptly ended with the last chapter and epilogue. And I just couldn't relate to any of it. Rich, southern grandmothers might like the characters.
Boring, self-righteous and preachy. I usually only read romance in the short-story form and Christmas ones are my favorites- but these were not interesting in the least.
The Vigilantes The Godmothers the two together.r, love, fun touching in with the happy couples bringing Christmas joy to others
There are three different Christmas theme stories included in this book. I enjoyed the first one And the Angels Sing. Naughty or Nice and A Golden Tree I found them to be slow going.
An eclectic mix of short Christmas stories
Good book. Stories in the true spirit of Christmas.
Received via First Reads and Zebra in exchange for an completely unbiased review. Also posted on Silk & SerifWishes for Christmas is a set of three Christmas cheer tales written by the prolific author Fern Michaels. In each tale we meet the cast of Fern's various groups: The Godmothers, The Sisterhood and The Vigilantes. In the first story, And The Angels Sing, Maggie reveals that she once knew a school teacher who was assaulted before disappearing. Since the day she found her teacher bruised [...]
Didn't realize there were three different stories in one book. Also didn't realize this is a series and it would have been smart to start at the beginning- I think. Overall fun, easy, holiday focused reading. Felt like the characters represented a very elite portion of our population- high socioeconomic, Caucasian peeps- not every day people. Some light hearted reading for the new year.
Three stories all centered around the holiday are the backbone of this collection, two that are series-specific (one from Sisterhood and one from Godmothers) and one that mixes the two groups in an unexpected yet thoroughly heartwarming way. While I’ve not read more current titles by Fern Michaels, I’m familiar with the women of the Sisterhood, and this was a nice introduction to the characters from the Godmothers series. While working nicely without having current information on the wom [...]
Fern MichaelsAll Ms. Michaels fans will love this collection of three short stories about Christmas. It will definitely put you in the spirit once you start reading it.And The Angels SingAs we already know the “Sisters” are known for helping those in need and find the resources and means to make dreams come true. This year Maggie Spritzer thinks that they should do something to help someone less fortunate then they are, isn’t that what Christmas is all about?Maggie has always regretted tha [...]
I had really high hopes for Wishes for Christmas as I used to love The Sisterhood series of novels back when they first came out. I remember reading the first book in the series on one of my summer vacations, sitting on the twin bed my dad got for me for the summer (I still lived in NY at the time and was only in California for the summers. I don’t know if I just grew out of the series or if they just got so unbelievable that I couldn’t read them anymore. I think it might be a combination of [...]
I really enjoyed this book made up of 3 stories starring the characters form two of Fern Michael's series, "The Vigilantes" and "The Godmothers". I liked that she did not have all the nasty bickering in the first two stories that she had in some of her past books. In the first story, Maggie Spitzer wants to "make something right" from her past. With the help of the rest of the group, will they be able to locate her beloved teacher in time to give her a Merry Christmas. In the second story, the lad [...]
Lovely and current and sassy with something a bit special for us Sisterhood fans and for the Godmother fans, as well.Loved story one. It seems our Maggie has been holding on to a painful memory of an event she has never told anyone about and she wants to fix it. In Sisterhood, style they do.Story two is about the Godmothers and while they are not my favorite of Ms. Michaels creation, was also a joy to read and Toots' inner dialog with herself always cracks me up. These women will get into the me [...]
I received this book from in exchange for a review.Wishes For Christmas brings together two of author Fern Michaels beloved series under one cover. The first story is a heart warming search for one of Maggie Spitzer's teachers from when she was a young girl. Maggie has always felt guilty for not helping her teacher when the young woman was attacked. Now, with the help of the Vigilanties, not only will Maggie find the woman who meant so much to her when she was a child, but she will also be able [...]
This book was really meant for fans of her previous 'series'. Each of the 3 stories involved numerous characters from previous books - too numerous in my opinion. I'm sure it felt like a family reunion to her loyal readers, but to me it was confusing and tedious to have so many characters with so many (mentioned) backgrounds in a short story. And the stories seemed like they were written under a short deadline. By that I mean there were many loose ends in each story.didn't anyone proof read thes [...]
Fans of Fern Michaels will love this collection of three short stories about Christmas. In Wishes for Christmas, Ms. Michaels brings together characters from the Sisterhood book and Grandmothers series in these holiday novels. The first short story is from The Sisterhood series, the second short story is from The Godmothers' series; the third short story combinations characters from these two series. This book does not stand-alone. I enjoyed the storylines; however since I have not read many of [...]
A terrific book comprised of three Christmas stories. The first features the Sisterhood ladies as they set about to try and find a beloved teacher one of them had as a child and to bring a Merry Christmas to her.The second story features the Godmothers in which a couple of them open their homes for Christmas viewing to raise money for their cause and while doing so come across a mystery and a family connection for the grandson of one of them. The third story features two of the Sisterhood ladies a [...]
There are three stories in this book. The first story brings the women (and men) of the sisterhood together to help one of their sisters (Maggie) search for and help someone from her past (not a revenge motive). It is truly a great Christmas themed storyline and was definitely fitting for the season. Story two has the women from the Godmother series also celebrating the season. The story is not as compelling as the first. There is a Christmas theme but it's kind of strange. Also there's some sor [...]
It was not my understanding when reading about this book prior to purchasing that it was 4 different stories. They were each very short and none really had the room for character or plot development. The first, "And the Angels Shall Sing" was a spin off of the Vigilante series and worked the best of any of them. For anyone who had not read that series though it would have not made very much sense at all. Of the four, the last "A Golden Tree" I thought made the least sense of all. The story was v [...]
In the beginning I had trouble getting into this book, but overall I enjoyed it. The beginning story, And the Angels Sing, was a little hard to follow for me. I think it had to do with that I was missing information from the series about the characters. I also found it hard to relate to these characters. Towards the end of this section thought I was into the story and excited to see what would happen. In naughty or nice I felt connections to the characters from the start and enjoyed this section [...]
