Really useful anthology that reflects on the transition that students must make from high school level to college level writing. Different from other anthologies in that both high school instructors weigh in on this question of how best to prepare students to be successful in higher education. In my opinion the best essays of the bunch in terms of being really useful for Freshman Year Comp instructors were "When a College Professor and a High School Teacher Read the Same Paper" by Tom Thompson a [...]

A few of the essays are excellent ("Making the Leap from HS to College Writing"; "My Five Paragraph Theme Theme"; "the Importance of Reading"); however, read the first volume first for more context about the vital need to articulate what we teach when we teach academic writing in high school and college.

This on-and-off read over the past couple month is filled with perfectly relevant essays on the teaching of writing, college readiness, and critical thinking. It certainly helped shaped some critical ideas I've been mulling over. Recommended!
